New Words in the Dictionary.

In Newsy Type Stuff on August 15, 2012 at 5:19 am

…wait, isn’t FB short for Facebook?

The Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary announced that they were adding 100 new words to their collection.  And because our society is what it is today, words such as “F-Bomb”, “A-ha Moment”, “Sexting” and my personal favourite – “Man Cave”, will be officially inducted into the dictionary.

The first thing that struck me was, “F-bomb was so 2005.”

And where the hell is phubbing?  It is statistically proven that there are way more Phubbers than there are Sexters!

So, come on, Merriam-Webster get on it!

Anyway, if you’re interested to find out what the new words are, and have a sneak peek into the degradation of the English language, and the reflection of cultural decline, click here.

You are not alone.

In Mobile Phone Usage on July 4, 2012 at 9:09 am

Ah…. Yes, it’s 4th July!  Independence Day!  Well, at least for those in the land that gave us the Big Mac, Clint Eastwood and more recently – Obamacare.

But are we really independent at all?  Can we really survive without a nifty little plastic in our pockets that gives us joy and pain, heartache and relief?  The first thing we wake up to, the one gadget that allows you to slow down or even remove the world around you as you sink deeper into it’s all-consuming blackhole, and the last thing we see before we surrender ourselves to sleep?

Well here are some stats to 1) let you know that you’re not alone, and 2) let you realize how sad it is.

We’re seriously serious.

For many of us, the need to check our phones constantly is like the need to say, breathe… or drink… or have sex.

As Chazz from Blades of Glory put it,

” I’m a sex addict. It’s my cross to bear. It’s a real disease with doctors and medicine and everything!”

But hey, who are we to judge?  And we digress.

Here at Phubbington Post, not only do we name and shame phubbers, we also try to eradicate this 21st century pandemic.

Here’s a useful article to help you curb the urge!

Our favourite part in this article is probably:

“Ever since I got a smartphone I’m using it constantly. It dings, I respond. It entertains me in the car, in the shower, and even when I’m actually with other people.”

We tend to be rather liberal with bathroom habits here, no one will oppose to some mid-number-two texting/ temple-running, right?

But in the shower takes things to a WHOLE DIFFERENT LEVEL.  If you 1) don’t think that was crazy, 2) find that oddly familiar and reminiscent of your own habits, 3) know “a friend” who is going through such a problem, because it’s ALWAYS about a friend, right?  We strongly recommend that you hit the jump and / or get some help.

How to stop phubbing and connect with real people in the real world.
